What to expect with a foot reflexology

The initial treatment will include a detailed consultation.  This is very important to gather the appropriate knowledge of your medical history and your lifestyle, enabling me to build a greater understanding of you as a whole person.

You will be fully clothed with just socks and shoes to be removed.  I will cleanse your feet and begin with a warm up massage, followed by the reflexology routine using various techniques including finger and thumb walking, pivoting, hook ins and rotations.

The pressure is medium firm, so it won't tickle but will allow enough pressure for the reflexes to be stimulated.

You might feel sensations throughout the treatment and sometimes areas on the feet are more tender. I chart all the sensations that I pick up and anything you do too.

When the treatment is over, I will wash my hands and get you a glass of water to allow you to ground yourself before leaving.

You will be fully clothed and I only ask that you do not wear makeup and limit jewellery. I will begin with soothing hot towels and a simple Neal's Yard Remedies facial wash. Next is a relaxing massage over the face and then I will stimulate various reflex points that are mapped across the face.  This will be performed by applying a firm pressure in very slow circular or sideward movements using the finger pad. It is wonderfully hypnotic and deeply relaxing.

The treatment will end with another massage of the face. The entire session will be an hour.  I always allow time for you to 'come to' before leaving, particularly if you are driving.

The second section involves the use of wax, various techniques of massage, stretching, using the hands, thumbs and a special carved rosewood stick.

What to expect with a hot stone reflexology

The initial treatment requires a detailed consultation so allow an extra 20 minutes.  I will gather information about you as a whole person, medical, lifestyle, diet and exercise and environmental factors.  This helps to guide me in the treatment.

I will need you to be comfortable and wear loose trousers or shorts, skirt, dress as I will work up to your knees.

Hot stone reflexology is the application of heated stones with manual reflexology, the combination of which provides a deeply relaxing and therapeutic experience.

The subtle energies of the warm stones calm the senses, relax muscle tension and can produce a deep relaxed state.  The heat from the stones can penetrate to a deeper level giving a different, soothing, comforting reflexology treatment.

The stones used are known as basalt which is porous and a product of volcanic/sedimentary action, leaving a beautiful dense stone which retains heat.

I will use the heated stones to provide the warm up massage and the reflexology routine will use hot stones of various sizes to complete the treatment.

The treatment ends with another massage using the stones and I will then wrap your feet, wash my hands and give you some water to help ground you before leaving.
